Mandalay is a residential care home for six females with learning disabilities and associated needs, such as epilepsy. As it is a female-only service, our team at Mandalay are also only female.
Supporting you
This spacious home provides a friendly and safe environment while promoting independence. The women who live here are extremely social and love to be part of the community. For example, we often swim at the nearby sports centre, go bowling or can be found on another shopping trip. Other activities include meals out, river walks or the cinema. We empower individuals to make choices in their everyday lives, develop new skills and experience new opportunities. This includes building everyday life skills, from cooking and cleaning to taking a course at the local college.
The team
Our team really care about the residents at Mandalay and focus on coming up with creative activities to keep everybody engaged and having fun. For example, our themed parties are a huge hit with themes such as Disney princesses, 80’s disco and many more.
We work with each person, their families and others close to them to create individual person-centred care plans, to support them to achieve their goals.
We also hold regular meetings with all staff and management to discuss any concerns, issues or ideas for the home.
Facilities
Each lady has their own double bedroom with ensuite facilities. There are three bedrooms on the ground floor and three on the first floor. All rooms are freshly decorated in warm tones, but this is the resident’s home, so we encourage rooms to be decorated to personal taste.
Mandalay has several relaxing communal areas, such as our sensory room or the large private garden. Our garden is perfect for the warmer weather with lots of garden furniture and our own gardening area where we are just starting to see our strawberries grow!
There is also a large dining room, kitchen, utility area and lounge complete with comfy sofas for our regular Disney film nights in.
