48 Cedar Road is one of our specialist brain injury rehabilitation services, located in the West Midlands. Here, we support up to nine individuals with acquired or traumatic brain injuries.

We provide high quality, expert-led rehabilitation support in a social care environment, empowering the people we support to actively redevelop lost skills in functional settings. Our specially trained support team empowers each individual to develop and maintain their independence and learn essential cognitive skills following their injury. By safely supporting them to adapt to life after brain injury and navigate the new experiences and emotions this brings, we achieve incredible outcomes for the people we support.

At Cedar Road, we are proudly Headway accredited and continuously work against their industry-leading brain injury rehabilitation support framework, ensuring quality of delivery and success for the people we support.

Supporting you

The support we provide is based around rehabilitation techniques proven to increase independence. We monitor individual progress using Goal Attainment Scaling, focusing on supporting small successes that lead to achieving greater goals.

We partner with external therapy providers for delivery of therapies specially designed to support those who have suffered brain injuries. To enhance daily living skills and functional activities, our professional partners deliver neuro-occupational therapy, supporting individuals to move forward and achieve a level of independence that’s right for them.

As part of our approach, we encourage the people we support to get involved in activities at home and in the local community. By doing this, we support them to establish new connections with other people and foster relationships throughout the community. Our housemates enjoy activities such as painting, diamond arts, colouring, karaoke, movie nights, fishing and visits to local attractions!

Facilities

Our shared spaces within the home provide opportunities for the people we support to socialise with each, spend time alone, or participate in therapy sessions in a less formal setting.  We benefit from a large lounge with a great selection of DVDs, books and games, an activity room, and a space with gym equipment. We also have an adapted training kitchen for engaging in occupational therapy sessions and practicing daily living skills.

The home has been carefully designed to meet the additional needs of our residents, whilst still providing a warm environment. We have nine bedrooms, all with en-suite facilities. Ceiling tracking is available where required and our first-floor bedrooms are accessible via a lift. We also have a large garden and the people we support are invited to help maintain the greenery, as well as taking part in outdoor activities.

The team

Our specially-trained team are supported by a Neuro Psychologist, who assesses each person’s specific needs and works with the team to design a care plan that will enhance their independence and quality of life. Offering person-centred support, our team adapts their approach to support each individual, respecting them as their own person, on their own unique journey. As a team, we use our personal strengths to deliver bespoke rehabilitation support, including adaptive menus to meet cultural needs and conversing in other languages with the people we support. We currently have team members who speak Hindi and can converse in British Sign Language.

Our team also has the skills needed to manage diabetes, enabling them to support people with monitoring blood glucose levels and administering insulin.

Currently, we have two wake night team members who monitor and support each person’s wellbeing and safety.

Everyone is encouraged and assisted to make the most of local facilities, using public transport where possible to build independence. With a bus stop just a 10-minute walk away and a train station close by, the people we support can visit Dudley Town Centre, Wolverhampton and Birmingham, accessing lots of amenities such as shops, restaurants, cafes, cinemas, and other fun activities!

Our housemates are a fun bunch and currently enjoy swimming and bowling.

Visits to local attractions such as Dudley Zoo and Castle, and the Black Country Living Museum are also arranged.
