VC Community Fete: our 2019 Summer open day
Group Support in Lichfield was transformed into a traditional community fete yesterday for our annual Summer open day.
The British weather was certainly traditional, but the rain didn’t dampen our spirits! Over 100 people we support from our services across the country grabbed their brollies and came to have fun with some new friends.
Once the ribbon was cut to open the VC Community Fete, then the fun began…
We had all the traditional games, from hook a duck to the coconut shy as well as beat the buzzer and the old favorite higher or lower game.
There was also lots of cutting and sticking as everyone found their inner superhero and made their own mask! There was definitely no shortage of sparkle on some of the creations.
In our face painting room, we had even more sparkle as everyone added a touch of glitter to their smiling faces.
But the highlight for most was the furry friends and unusual creatures that came to visit too. There was a chance to hold lots of creatures from snakes to hedgehogs and even a tarantula in our petting zoo.
Of course, we couldn’t expect everyone to keep busy and not stop for a rest and bite to eat! The burger orders came in thick and fast but luckily our CEO Andrew Cannon was on hand with his tea towel to help dish up.
For those with a sweet tooth and that didn’t mind dipping out into the rain, there was ice-creams for dessert! That’s if they hadn’t already tucked into some homemade cake inside. Some of our services were incredibly creative with their bakes – look at this superhero one! We can confirm it was yummy too.
Everyone had a great time, there were lots of prizes won and smile all round! Here’s to next year (can someone order some sunshine in advance?)
