Rolling out the pink carpet for the grand opening of Cleadon Court!

Last month, we celebrated the grand opening of the newest addition to our expanding brain injury rehabilitation portfolio. Rolling out the pink carpet, we headed north to sunny South Shields and officially opened Cleadon Court!

As part of our ambitious growth plans, Cleadon Court is the second of three new brain injury rehabilitation developments to open across the North of England. So far this year, we’ve also celebrated the opening of Linnet Mews – a highly anticipated service in Chesterfield.

The focus is on expanding brain injury provision across the North, where prevalence rates remain high and expert-led, active rehabilitation is needed to help people with brain injuries reclaim their lives and reintegrate with their communities.

Pillar of the community

With the sun shining brightly, the special opening ceremony was attended by the Mayor of South Tyneside, Counsellor Faye Cunningham, alongside other VIP guests from local healthcare providers and members of the surrounding community.

Meticulously coordinated, our vibrant event reflected the positive attitude shared across our brain injury team, as they remain fervently committed to improving the lives of those who have suffered brain injuries.

Esteemed Operations Director, Vicki Bennett expressed her excitement about the impact Cleadon Court will have on the lives of individuals with brain injuries – within the local area and beyond.

Beaming with pride, she said: “I’m absolutely over the moon to have the mayor here to showcase our incredible new brain injury care home Cleadon Court. This will make such a difference to the lives of people with brain injuries in the North of England, so I’m excited to finally get people here to start their active rehabilitation journeys with us.”

In a heart-rending speech, Mayor Cunningham shared her personal connection with brain injuries, emphasising the importance of specialist services like Cleadon Court:

“It is an absolute honour and pleasure to open the new Voyage Care brain injury care home, Cleadon Court, as I am very passionate about brain injury support. It’s a subject dear to my heart, as my grandson had a horrendous accident in Australia, which caused a brain injury, and he has recovered very slowly.

“Had he have had access to a facility like Cleadon Court, I’m sure his journey to recovery would have been a lot faster and much easier for our family. This is going to be really important for South Tyneside and I am thrilled to have been a part of this!”

After their moving speeches, together Vicki and Mayor Cunningham cut our iconic magenta ribbon and officially opened Cleadon Court.

State-of-the-art support

Kitted-out with cutting-edge facilities, every inch of Cleadon Court has been purposefully designed to accommodate the needs of those with brain injuries. Featuring a training kitchen with adjustable countertops for developing daily living skills, and a therapy room for important one-to-one therapy sessions, Cleadon Court will support the delivery of active rehabilitation and promote positive rehabilitation outcomes.

Benefitting from eight specially designed ensuite bedrooms and five self-contained apartments, Cleadon Court provides residential support for people in the initial stages of their rehabilitation journey, as well as a transitional pathway for those ready to live more independently.

Cleadon Court has been designed to support the extenuating physical needs of those with brain injuries. Complete with a mood-regulating colour scheme and carefully curated grounds enveloping the property, Cleadon Court’s features extend to enhance emotional wellbeing.

A special gift

Enjoying a special day out, residents and team members from neighbouring service, Carville Road, attended Cleadon Court to join in with celebrations. Presenting a special gift to our new service, Carville Road generously gifted a piece of handprinted art. As the hand-made piece was installed, Mayor Cunningham placed her handprint on the canvas as an extra special parting gift.

Demonstrating our commitment to providing high-quality, specialist care for individuals with brain injuries, Cleadon Court highlights our unwavering dedication to supporting individuals on their journey to regaining independence and living the lives they choose.
