Nottingham purpose-built supported living accommodation is now open!
Voyage Care have opened a new supported living service in Bestwood, to provide support to people with learning disabilities, autism and acquired brain injuries in a modern setting. This purpose-built accommodation is made up of eight self-contained flats over two floors with assisted technology.
Aptly named ‘The Library House’, due to the location previously being a community library, this new service will help to ensure that the people supported are at the heart of the Bestwood community. Promoting independent living, supported living services are designed to help people live a fulfilled and enriched life. Taking nearly three years to complete, Voyage Care worked with housing developer Minster Developments to build the service with a focus on technology aides and accessibility. For example, one of the best features of The Library House is that the windows are just slightly lower, which gives the perfect view for both those in a wheelchair and without. In one of the eight flats, there are also adjustable kitchen worktops to suit the height level of the user.
Supported living schemes like The Library House are an alternative to residential care homes. They allow vulnerable people to live independently while accessing the care and support they need from trained support workers. The house has been built to assist people with physical disabilities, learning difficulties or post-rehabilitation brain injuries grow their independent living skills.
Although it is not specifically just for someone who has experienced a brain injury, the staff working at The Library House have received brain injury training. All staff have also received training specific to the needs of the individuals who are ready to move into their new home. As a sector-leading provider of care, Voyage Care have a skilled in-house training team to ensure that up-to-date and regular training is always available for the team.
Steph Allen, Operations Manager at Voyage Care, commented:
“We are really excited that The Library House is finally open! As a local girl, I used to visit the library that was once here, so I love that now our service can continue to help and bring delight into people’s lives like the library did.
“We took our time with this build because we wanted to make sure that it was just right. Each of the one-bedroom flats are bright and airy, with a kitchen-diner, living room and bathroom. There is a lift between flats, on-site parking, front-door buzzer system and 24/7 support available. This means that the tenants can achieve the right level of independence for them.”
With over 1,000+ supported living properties across the UK, Voyage Care is passionate about empowering each individual to lead an enriching and fulfilling life.
