Autism awareness week at our services

During 29 March – 4 April, Voyage Care took part in World Autism Awareness Week. A week dedicated to raising awareness and improving peoples understanding of autism. You might have seen the stories across our website and social media. These included blogs and good news stories about the autistic people we support and our staff. You can catch up on all these amazing stories in the news and info area on our website.

We also wanted to share some of the fantastic activities our services got up to during autism awareness week.

Sir Evelyn Road

Our National Autistic Society (NAS)  accredited service, Sir Evelyn Road, set themselves a huge challenge of walking 10KM over seven days. Our staff team and the people we support were determined to smash this target, and that’s exactly what they did! After just three days, they had already walked an incredible 25.12 KM, and they didn’t stop there. By the end of the week, the people we support had walked a whopping 58KM and raised a huge £840.00 for the National Autistic Society.

Registered Manager, Tine Herrygers said “I am so proud of the people we support and our staff teams, the house is absolutely pumping with our successes, and the atmosphere is fantastic. We have far exceeded our expectations, everyone is so pleased with our results!”.

Northfield House

The people we support and staff at Northfield House took part in the Super 7 challenge set by the NAS for World Autism Awareness Week. As an NAS accredited service, the team and people we support really wanted to help to raise awareness and carried out lots of activities all based around the number seven. Residents at Northfield House came up with lots of ideas including cooking and dressing up as super heroes and lots of energetic activities too!

Team member Lisa, and Debbie, a person we support got out and about for autism awareness week. They walked an impressive 7K from Crowcombe to the Quantocks, and just look at the views along the way!

Northfield House, Service Manager Sarajane joined forces with Stacey, Branch Manager of Somerset and Devon DCA, completing a 7k run to raise awareness for autism.

Both Stacey and Sarajane enjoy running, but they pushed themselves a little further than usual to reach 7K as part of their Super 7 challenge activities!

Redcliffe House

The staff and people we support at Redcliffe House completed a sponsored 30 mile walk for autism awareness week. Everyone at the service took part, from walking one mile to walking 26 miles! Most of the residents at Redcliffe House are very active, especially Paul and Thomas. Thomas alone walked 26 miles in one week!

To keep everyone on track staff created a ‘walking chart’. Everyone could see how many miles they walked and how many they had left to walk. The people we support accumulated 43.5 miles of walking in a week and raised an incredible £203  for the National Autistic Society!
