A movie star is born at Children’s Complex Care!

Earlier this year, Jakub – a young person supported by our Children’s Complex Care team – celebrated a moment on the silver screen. Jakub’s support team notified us of the incredible progress he’s made since joining us ten years ago. So, after we filmed him and created an emotive movie about his life, he attended a star-studded premiere of his movie!

Joined by key members of our Children’s Complex Care operations team, vibrant Marketing team, his mum, and key Health Care Assistant, Murdell, Jakub spent the day celebrating his achievements alongside those who love and support him.

Hosted the day before his 14^th birthday, our team put their best outfits on and ensured it would be a day for Jakub and his family to always remember.

Jakub’s story

Jakub is a young person we support with complex needs. He was born with VACTERL association, a disorder that stands for vertebral defects, anal atresia, cardiac defects, tracheoesophageal fistula, renal anomalies, and limb abnormalities. Affecting multiple body systems, Jakub requires 24/7 care.

His condition has presented him with many challenges and obstacles to overcome. Our esteemed Children’s Complex Care team have supported him since he was just four years old. With our expert support – underpinned by industry-leading clinical governance – Jakub is continuing to make inspiring progress. Together, with his support team, he’s rapidly smashing through his goals – and we felt that deserved celebrating!

It’s not every day a star is born but, when they are, they shine brightly. When we originally visited Jakub to capture his story, he was a natural in front of the camera! Charismatic and confident, Jakub’s celebrity qualities inspired our Children’s Complex Care team to host a movie premiere, so he could watch back the video about his journey and see first-hand how proud the team are of him – and exactly how special he is!

With his birthday looming, the team couldn’t think of a better way to celebrate than to invite Jakub, his mum Zaneta, and Murdell to their offices for a VIP viewing.

The big day!

A well-known fact about Jakub is that he’s a huge movie fan! In awe of the glitz and glam of Hollywood, we made sure we threaded this into his event! So, when he first arrived at our offices in London, he was greeted by lots of flashing cameras from his very own “paparazzi” – otherwise known as our Children’s Complex Care team!

He proceeded down the red carpet in style, greeting his adoring fans and VIP guests. Jakub was even joined by cardboard cut outs of his favourite A-list celebrities: Spiderman, Mbappe, Ronaldo, and The Rock! After taking in his star-spangled greeting, he headed into the screening room and prepared to watch his movie for the first time.

As the story of Jakub’s life graced the big screen, emotions ran high across the audience, and Jakub was thrilled to see his story unfold. Mum – Zaneta – and Health Care Assistant Murdell, were touched to see the video and relive all the progress he has made.

After the showing, Jakub and his entourage proceeded into the main area of the office, so his fans could enjoy exclusive photo opportunities with him, before heading back inside for an Oscars-style awards ceremony!

At Jakub’s ‘Oscars’, lots of prestigious awards were handed out. From ‘Best Dressed’ to ‘Best Actor’ and ‘Best Health Care Assistant’, the room was filled with love, support and appreciation for what each person brought to the event – and to Jakub’s life.

The team at Children’s Complex Care wanted every single person involved in Jakub’s care package to feel appreciated and rewarded for the part they’ve played in his progress – and they did just that!

After a round of acceptance speeches following each award, there wasn’t a dry eye in the room. Yvonne Mujerii, our Clinical Services Lead, delivered an emotive memoir of her experiences with Jakub – from the moment she first met him, right up to the event and the day before his 14^th birthday.

An important day

Our team at Children’s Complex Care couldn’t have done a better job at bringing Jakub’s movie premiere to life. Yvonne and Sanya – Jakub’s Clinical Case Manager – coordinated the event to commemorate the unwavering support Jakub’s team have provided him and his family with over the past 10 years.

The event demonstrated the passion and care shared across our Children’s Complex Care team, and the difference their support makes to every family we support.

For Jakub, his mum, and Murdell, the day made them feel even more valued, supported and loved. After tucking into popcorn and posing for a final round of photographs, they left with huge smiles on their faces – as well as armfuls of big trophies from the Oscars!
