Sam is building on his skills for a bright future
Congratulations are in order for Sam*, who we support in Norfolk, as he is due to gain his level one Construction Certificate.
Starting in February 2017, Sam* has developed a mix of skills that will support his progression in the construction, especially brick laying – and his support team have been with him all the way.
“Initially, staff attended sessions with Sam* just to make sure he arrived on time. We motivated him every week and also worked closely with Century Training Academy, who run the course,” said manager, Lena Granat.
And he is grateful for the push.
“When I did not want to carry on with the course, Voyage Care staff motivated me to complete it,” he said.
Since starting the course, Sam* has been learning about how to identify hazards and risks in the work space as well as learning how to work cooperatively in a team. But there was a particular part of the course that was his favourite.
“Learning to lay bricks and learning a trade for future use was my favourite bit of the course,” explained Sean.
Sam* also volunteers one day a week at a local farm, where he is developing even more skills, including learning how to drive a small tractor. He’s focused and is looking forward to the future.
“My main goal is to have a full time job and to be happy,” said Sam*.
