Holistic approach stopped Dean’s challenging behaviour
Dean* lives in a specialist supported living service. When he moved into his new home from a specialist school placement, Dean* had approximately 47 incidents of challenging behaviour per month which included assaults on others and self-harm.
Our support team all received specialist training to meet Dean’s* needs following a structured approach using TEACCH. Input was provided by our in-house Behavioural Analysts Team.
Behaviour management plans and support guidelines were implemented using early and preventative intervention strategies. We took a holistic approach to fully understand the reasons for his challenging behaviours. This approach included references to his medical history and particularly his epilepsy and diabetes.
Overall, Dean* has an excellent quality of life in his present care setting resulting in a reduction of incidents to 4-6 per year.
